2EC works with tools that makes a difference

2EC has developed a multitude of user-friendly tools. These tools are based upon research and international experience in safety science, social and behavioural science. The tools are human-centric and therefore applicable to any culture around the world. They are designed to be integrated into the organisation’s way of working. Below we introduce the purpose behind a selection of tools in the 2EC toolbox.

A Log-In increases focus, builds up the desired atmosphere and frames  the meeting. It helps to reveal what feelings and thoughts are present in the room. It also provides a bond between the participants as it involves everyone in a team to be present, seen, and heard.

A Log-Out provides collective closure. It  quickly  gives a feeling of what is understood and what the participants have gained.  Therefore, the  Log-Out enhances continuous improvement, team strength, inspiration as well as aligning the team around important matters.

Non-Violent Communication was developed as a constructive communication skill to reduce and manage  conflict. Non-Violent Communication aims to support change  on three interconnected  levels;  within  oneself, between others, and within groups and social systems. The  purpose is to  improve working relations and  prevent  unnecessary conflicts. With  this communication tool,  one can move from misunderstanding and blame to strong relationships that fosters trust.

Meta Communication  is the process of communicating about our communication. Occasionally  “zooming” out from the ongoing conversation to check on understanding and clarify assumptions, can reduce  conflict and contribute to clearer and more effective communication. This tool  can facilitate  conversations that are more to the point and sensitive to the most important thoughts and feelings. Additionally,  Meta Communication can be used to obtain direct feedback on how the communication can be improved.

Based on Edgar Schein's book "Humble Inquiry"

Humble Inquiry¹ is the art  of asking questions to explore what others think, know or feel. This tool puts focus on the  other person and asks humble, powerful, and explorative questions. Learning to do more Humble Inquiry enhances the mutual trust needed to work cohesively  and creates deeper shared understanding.

Culture is influenced by stories and stories influence culture.  An organisation  evolves the culture more effectively in a desired direction when it becomes aware of its own Story Telling.

Story Telling has an incredible capacity to support organisations as the stories highlight effort and deliver large pieces of content in a way people can relate to.  In that way, Story Telling influences the cultural transformation.

Coaching to Evolve supports mutual development of leadership for safety. Coaching to Evolve provides synergies such as trustful, open and collaborative relationships. The process creates space for self-reflection that opens up new solutions and helps individuals reach their full potential. It is a learning journey  that generates  opportunity to evolve as a leader. The process is generative with gains for  both the organisation and the employees as the transformation results in stronger individual leadership, as well as safety culture.

The purpose of Quick Measuring is to measure opinions or climate in the room quickly and anonymously. Quick Measuring generates an overview of the feelings and perspectives present and aids in making timely adjustments. Getting a read on the overall perspective of the participants makes adjustments easier and helps generate successful meetings.

Reflecting Team  provides  time and space for reflection through sharing knowledge and personal experiences.  A reflective dialogue like this engages everyone in the room  and  increases  the Shared Space as it opens the arena for  greater presence and  deeper  listening to others.  Reflecting Teams is a wonderful tool for creating shared understanding and establishing  insights  that lasts.

Small  Groups is a tool for gathering input, sorting out  information in a collaborative manner,  and creating  shared understanding.  It  is a  participatory  tool that  creates a high level of engagement. By dividing into smaller groups  more voices, ideas, perspectives and opinions  are  shared. It is a democratic tool that facilitates the involvement of all participants and reduces the likelihood of only a few voices being heard in the room.  With this tool teams will learn new things about themselves and others.

Surfacing underlying assumption  is critical for safety  within organisations.  The tool Surfacing Assumptions examines and makes individuals and teams aware of  what is assumed and taken for granted. Surfacing Assumptions aids in alignment, builds  trust and creates a  shared understanding.
